Police in El Salvador have arrested five on charges arising from the May 20 stampede at San Salvador’s Cuscatlan Stadium, which killed 12 people and injured dozens more, the El Salvador Attorney General said.According to a statement from the attorney general’s office, three officials with Alianza FC were arrested: club president Pedro Hernandez, security manager Edwin Abarca Ventura, and financial director Zoila Cordova. Reynaldo Avelar Contreras, general manager of stadium owner EDESSA, and Samuel García Montano, keeper of the stadium keys, were also arrested.The attorney general said too few entrances were available at the stadium, and that the doors had not been opened sufficiently in advance of the match.According to the statement, the organizers also allegedly oversold the event.
